Career
Peterson Mwendwa’s culinary Art career began early on, inspiration by my Uncle who had love and respect for quality and well presented food. After graduating from the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education at age 22, Peterson sought opportunities to earn a living and develop a career and ended up in the Hospitality industry at Cinnabar Restaurant at the coastal city of Mombasa as a Kitchen Scullery.
My culinary repertoire flourished during an internship with a South African Executive Chef Alex Hendriks at Southern Palms Beach Resort, followed by Royal Reserve Beach Resort as Chef de Partie, where I developed and refined my culinary techniques. I proceeded to Nairobi City and joined Pelican Grill serving as Chef Tournante, before joining Trattoria Restaurant as a Sous Chef. It was at Nairobi Safari Club where I extended my skills to all outlets of the hotel under the guidance of a French Executive Chef Laurent Sansoucy, landing at its fine dining Italian restaurant as the Specialty Chef and the Hotel Sous, pleasing the palettes of the restaurant’s most exclusive clientele.

After spending 2 years with the Nairobi Safari Club, Mwendwa went on to take the role of Executive Sous Chef at the Jacaranda Hotel, working under Chef Obiero. At the Jacaranda Hotel, Peterson was exposed to the creative expressions of Chef Obiero’s use of Asian, Italian and progressive Continental cooking techniques. After 3 years of successful service at Jacaranda I took my first Executive Chef position at Tipilikwani Mara luxury Camp, Fresh Opening Game Lodge in Masai Mara the seventh world wonder. Its here where I elevated the cuisine to its current state, continuing to update the menu seasonally and reflecting my most recent experience. Chef Peterson’s vast menu of international comfort food ranged from foie gras to fried chicken.
In 2008, Chef Peterson, continued his pleasing palate and managed to exceedingly meet the expectations of the President of “César Ritz” College University and in appreciation I was offered scholarship at The Culinary Arts Academy located at Le Bouveret, SWITZERLAND where I did my Higher Diploma in Culinary Arts.
Chef Peterson opened Shooting Star Lodge in Zanzibar as an Executive Chef in the fall of 2009, an Island Lodge fully dedicated to gourmet Cuisine. Located in Kiwengwa area, the lodge had a menu full of unique flavors including standouts like Parcel of Beef delivered with red wine reduction, Honey moon King Prawns and the infamous Lobster Thermidore’ that sprung the lobster n’ cheese craze.
In 2010, Chef Peterson enrolled for a 2 year course with the famous French University, Le Cordon Bleu for a bachelor degree in Culinary Arts and Molecular Gastronomy and graduated with 1st Class honors. On Graduating I took up an Executive Chef position at Chobe Safari Lodge in Uganda before proceeding to Best Western Coral. Beach hotel in Dar es salaam, Tanzania on the same position.
In 2017 Chef Mwendwa went back to Nairobi and took up an Executive Chef position at Royal Tulip. Canaan Nairobi, a franchise of Louvre group of hotels for 1 year before joining The Nairobi Club as Director of Culinary Arts (Corporate Executive Chef). Today, Chef Peterson Mwendwa can be found spearheading new projects and revamping existing concepts for The Nairobi Club Collective in his role as Corporate Chef.
Who is Chef Peterson
Chef Peterson Mwendwa alias Prince Peterson was the Top Chef (winner) of Garnishing and presentation contest of Top Chef All-Stars in 1997, where I earned consistent acclaim from judges and popularity among viewers.
As a first-generation Kenyan born and raised in Mwingi sub county, Prince Peterson sources the flavors and influences in cooking from many of the African dishes I grew up eating. I am passionate about introducing a continental dinners cuisine infused with African Cuisine, all in my elegant, artfully plated style.

Chef Peterson’s aim is to provide a memorable dining experience that challenges guest to eat with an opened mind all while tapping into flavors and aromas that are familiar to the essence of the dish.
National Recognition
A member of the Culinary Professional Society of Kenya since 2016, I Chef Mwendwa has since established myself as an authority within the culinary industry. In 2018 I was elected the President of The Culinary Professional Society of Kenya and mandating delivering the growth of the society to great levels. I have participated in multiple Food and Wine Festivals, both nationally and internationally, including numerous wins in Dar es salaam City Wine and Food Festival.
